Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena left for the Maldives yesterday,
to take part in the SAARC Health Ministers’ Forum to be held in Male
today (12). During the forum, he would present a set of proposals on the
control of rabies and communicable diseases, a Health Ministry spokesman
said.
According to the spokesman, Minister Sirisena would present this set
of proposals relevant to the theme of this year’s forum, considering the
significant achievements made by Sri Lanka in connection with the two
specific areas.
Sri Lanka had already eliminated certain diseases such as Polio,
tetanus and whooping cough, etc., and were close to eliminating some
other diseases such as Malaria.
But many other SAARC countries were still battling against some
diseases and taking measures to eliminate them.
Minister Sirisena would be describing Sri Lankan experiences
presenting the set of proposals, he added.
