Northern Province Governor G A Chandrasiri in a Sinhala and Tamil New Year message states: “Under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa the government has devoted much to ensure the prosperity in the Northern Province. As a result the people are enjoying the benefits of the development that has already taken place.

“I am happy to see that the people of the North are leading normal lives and are enjoying the Sinhala and Tamil New Year happily with their families.

“We must take into mind to observe the New Year according to our traditions and customs, as it will help strengthen the unity and harmony among all. “It is my earnest wish that the Northern Province should emerge as a society that upholds social and cultural values.

“I wish you all a happy Sinhala and Tamil New Year.”
