The New Year brightens people's lives with new hopes and aspirations
enlightens the whole country with jubilation and invokes blessings for a
journey towards building a new Sri Lanka.
“It helps rebuild severed social relations, cement relations with
friends and relatives and promotes positive social tendencies like
launching work at a given time for a set of objectives, respect for
elders which all helped create a civilized nation.
“As a people nurtured with moral and spiritual values, Sri Lankans
have built a national culture which had outsmarted all other cultures.
Uninterrupted observance of New Year customs and traditions will help
protect and conserve Sri Lankan culture and stabilize peace and good
virtues.
“During this festive season all sections of the media have taken
steps to inculcate new year customs and traditions and cultural norms
among society including the new generation. It is the duty of elders in
particular to teach the essence of new year customs to the children and
prevent them from falling prey to meaningless gimmicks.
“While joining hands to enjoy the dawn of new year in unison, let us
all perform our duty towards the motherland by uniting to thwart and
overcome all challenges posed to the country.
“If we made this our new year resolution we will be able to make Sri
Lanka a prosperous and proud nation.
“Wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year”.
