Raids to detect trade malpractices during festive season

Co-operative and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando has ordered a search on all wholesale storages which have stored all essential commodities islandwide.

A Special Raiding Unit of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) appointed by Minister Johnston is to search all wholesale storages in the main cities of the country. They are also to take legal action against the traders who issue commodities to the market that are of inferior quality.

The Special Raiding Unit of the CAA has already conducted raids in Kotahena and seized huge stocks of commodities which are unfit for consumption.

These included 6,850 kilograms of outdated Semolina, 4,870 kilograms of potatoes and 2,600 kilograms of dhal.

The CAA has deployed Special Raiding Unit officers in all towns and cities to look out for trade malpractices during the festive season.
