‘SL wins confidence of Muslim world’
‘Sri Lanka has won the confidence of the Muslim World as a result of
the positive foreign policy followed by our President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“This was amply demonstrated at Geneva where a total of seven Muslim
countries voted for Sri Lanka, against U.S. sponsored resolution at the
UNHRC , “ said A H M Azwer MP, Member of Parliament Council at an
Islamic Day celebration at Babul Hassen Maha Vidyalaya in Warakapola.

MP Azwer said that the principle of democracy is counted on the basis
of majority of votes.
“At Geneva the 24 countries that voted for the US resolution
represented a total population of 2124.3 million people.”
“The 15 countries that voted against the resolution constitutes a
total population of 2130.30 people. As a result a majority of six
million people have voted for Sri Lanka and another 1.3 million
abstained through their proxy. In actual fact they refused to vote on
for the US. If India as expected, voted with Sri Lanka, then we could
have made the US and its allies forfeit the deposit in the Geneva game,”
he stated.
“The government is very pleased with the Muslim community for the
tremendous enthusiasm shown by the entire Muslim population for so well
responding to the call by Ulemas to rise against Zionist and imperialist
treachery by staging massive protests throughout the country supportive
of the Sri Lankan cause in Geneva.”
“Has history repeated itself since the Muslims throughout the
centuries have risen against foreign domination posed from time to time
by the Dutch, Portuguese and the British. The Muslims have always shown
their patriotism towards their motherland whenever there was a threat to
us from alien powers,” he said.
Azwer also paid tribute to late leader Al-Haj M A M Abdul Hassan for
his great services towards the development of Babul Hassen Vidyalaya and
all other educational ministries in the Sathkorala.
Senior Minister Athauda Seneviratne, Malaysian Ambassador Azmi
Zainudeen, Iranian Ambassador M B Hassan Pouri, Libyan Call Society
Director Tharik, Siddik Haneefa and several others also spoke. |
