Youngsters clash in Twenty20 semis

Two Kandyan teams will be looking for a place in the final as the
semi finals of the Dialog Youth Under-19 Twenty20 Championship will be
played today at the CCC Grounds. In the first semi-final, Trinity
College, Kandy will meet St. Peter's College Colombo while the other
match will be played between St. Sylvester's College, Kandy and Richmond
College.
The pick of the tournament will be the St. Peter's College, Trinity
College clash. St. Peter's College entered to the semi finals beating
Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda by 87 runs in their quarter final match
before beating Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala at the pre-quarter finals.
Peterites will be led by Shehan Fernando.
Trinity College team is also a talented line up which will play the
semi against St. Peter's under the captaincy of Niroshan Dikwella.
Before entering semi-finals they defeat Wesley College at the
pre-quarter finals and St.Benedict's College at the quarter Finals by 21
runs.
St.Sylvester's College Kandy and the Richmond College Galle will be
the rivals in the second semi-final. Ruwantha Ekanayake is the steering
force of the side, being the Captain. Before heading to semi-finals,
they met Thurstan College in the pre-quarter finals and Zahira College
in the quarters.
Richmond College Galle, which is captained by Pabasara Waduge and one
of the pioneers in southern province will be the opponent for
St.Sylvester's side. Also they had plenty of experience in the
tournament while playing the T20 Championship and it helped them to beat
St. Anthony's College, Katugastota and De Mazenod College, Kandana on
their way to the semi finals.
So, the semi finals between those four schools will be a thrilling
experience for T20 fans. The match for the third place will be played
tomorrow and the final will be played tomorrow evening. |
