Wedding bells chime in prison for ex-LTTE cadres

Two ex-LTTE cadres, inmates of the Magazine Prison entered into matrimony and tied the knot at the prison yesterday.

Shanthiwel Illangeshwaran had engaged in numerous terror activities which got him a jail term of 30 years. Illangeshwaran says he was enrolled to the LTTE by force while schooling in Vavuniya. When he joined the LTTE, Illangeshwaran had an affair with schoolmate G Sudarshanie, a Sinhala girl from Vavuniya. Even though Illangeshwaran was a prisoner, it was not an obstacle to their affair.

Ex - LTTE cadre Balachandran Pushparaja serving a term at Magazine Prison had an affair when he was imprisoned.

When prison officials learnt about the two affairs, they informed Prison Reforms Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera. On the advice of the minister, Magazine Prison officials arranged a wedding ceremony for the two ex - LTTE cadres.

The two inmates were married at the Magazine Prison yesterday before Thimbirigasyaya Marriage Registrar H Ramyabarathie.

After the ceremony, the newly wed grooms were re-sent to the H ward of Magazine Prison by prison officials.
