Today is Good Friday

Today is Good Friday where Christians the world over commemorate the death on the cross of Jesus Christ. In Sri Lanka too, Good Friday is observed with great reverence among the Christians, marked by penance acts of mortification and other sacrifices during the Holy Week culminating in the main Good Friday service depicting the three hours’ agony of Christ’s passion.

The period leading up to Good Friday is also a time for the “Way of the Cross” retracing Christ’s Journey to Calvary followed devoutly by the faithful who also make pilgrimages to the famous stations of the cross at Hiniduma and Mawathagama.

The main Good Friday services will be held at St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena and the Church of Christ the Living Saviour at Bauddhaloka Mawatha.
