Divi Neguma phase III launch on April 5

On the heels of the enormous success recorded in Divi Neguma phase I
and II, to make low income families economically viable, the government
is to launch its third phase with special emphasis on livestock,
fisheries, agriculture and cottage industries at the auspicious time of
9.15 a.m. on April 5
The government will provide assistance to 2.5 million households in
the country to initiate, small scale industries, poultry farming and
fruit cultivation aiming at the export market under the third stage of
the programme.
Government officials in every Grama Seva Division including Samurdhi
animators are in the process of selecting suitable beneficiaries of
every division after visiting their housesholds from March 1 - 31.Over
150 beneficiaries have been selected for every GN division under this
programme.
According to Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, special
focus will be laid on the promotion of milk production under this
programme.
“The beneficiaries will gather in three places in every Grama
Niladhari Divison on April 5 and to receive seed packs and other
assistance according to the nature of their project from Grama Seva
Niladhari, Samurdhi Development Officer and Agricuture Development
officer who act as facilitators”, the minister said.
The minister said the Divi Neguma phase I helped arrest the soaring
vegetable prices. He said that government was able to maintain vegetable
prices at very low level due to the massive contribution from the Divi
Neguma programme.
