Crocodile claims woman's life

A mother of two was dragged and killed by a crocodile while she was
bathing in the Nilwala Ganga at Bandarawatta, Kadduwa, Kamburupitiya on
Wednesday.
The victim, Kalutotage Kanthi, 28, was a resident of Bandarawatta
Rajagalgoda. Her body was recovered on the following day.
Ex-MPCS president indicted
Jaffna Police have filed a case in the Jaffna magistrate's court
against a former president of the Jaffna Multipurpose Cooperative
Society, who is accused of assisting in the sale of 27,000 kilograms of
sugar and 300 bags of wheat flour to private traders at a black market
price.
These commodities were said to have been issued to the MPCS by the
government for distribution to the people.
Drug peddlers arrested
Jaffna Police arrested three persons selling drugs at Somasundaram
Avenue, Jaffna.
The Police arrested the three following a tip-off from the public.
Jaffna Police are investigating.
Earth Hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm
Earth Hour 2012 will take place today from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
Earth Hour is a worldwide event organised by the World Wide Fund for
Nature (WWF) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually,
encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential
lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on
climate change.
Seminar - role of media in 21st century
The Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum will conduct a seminar on the 'Role
of media in 21st Century' today at Khairiya Muslim Balika MV, Colombo 9.
Nearly 125 Tamil and Muslim Advanced Level students from Colombo
schools are expected to participate in the seminar.
N M Ameen, Thaha Muzammil, H M Faiz, Kalaiwathy Kaleel and Javed
Munawwer will conduct lessons on various media related topics.
High Commissioner of Bangladesh Mahbub - uz - Zaman, will participate
as the chief guest at the certificate awarding ceremony at 4pm. Khairiya
Muslim Balika MV Principal A S Shihana will be the guest of honour.
The seminar is organised on the initiative of the school's Media
Club.
Certificate awarding ceremony
Agio Vocational Training Centre, Sri Lanka will hold its fifth
certificate awarding ceremony at Royal Palms Beach Hotel, Kalutara North
on April 4.
Ambassador of Royal Netherlands Louis Piet will be the chief guest.
TVEC deputy director general B H S Suraweera and Royal Agio Company
Netherlands chairman Ad Wintermans will also participate.
Prize distribution
The 4oth annual prize distribution of Sri Saranatissa Daham Pasala
will be held at the Sri Sumangala Pirivena Viharaya, Urala on April 1.
Trade fair
An exhibition and trade fair organised by Revatah Rajakeeya Vidyalaya,
Gangodawila will be on April 3 and 4 from 8am at the school premises.

The Avurudhu pola organised by Visakha Vidyalaya Old Girls'
Association will be held at the school premises today from 9am to
6.30pm.
The pola will feature trade stalls.
