School computer laboratories islandwide

The Telecommunication and Information Technology Ministry will establish 500 school computer laboratories countrywide, in line with the budget proposals 2012, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

This project will be completed within three years. With this project, the present 32 percent of computer literacy rate will increase to 75 percent.

The government has allocated Rs 500 million this year to carry out these projects. The minister said that suitable schools are identified now under a certain criteria.

At the initial stage, the project will commence in two schools in the Southern Province under the patronage of Minister Siyambalapitiya and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa on April 4.

The two schools are Pahala Arandara Kanista Vidyalaya, Hambantota and Weerahela Kanista Vidyalaya, Tissamaharamaya.
