Protest against attack on attorney

Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court Lawyers' Association members yesterday staged a protest against the attack on the attorney who appeared for the suspects in the killing of two Buddhist monks at the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court last week.

Senior members of the Association said that every citizen in the country has a right to be defended by a lawyer in criminal cases or civil matters.

The basic right of an attorney is to defend a client who seeks assistance from him for any case whether it's a criminal or civil.

The members of the Association condemned the attack on Attorney Sumith Silva on March 23 outside the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court premises.
