IDPs get bags of cement

The Economic Development Ministry has distributed 400,000 bags of cement among the internally displaced in the Northern Province from 2009 to 2011 under the Uthuru Vasanthaya development programme, ministry Additional Secretary Nihal Somaweera said.

Around 147,800 bags of cement were provided to Jaffna district, 72,960 to Killinochchi district, 51, 240 to Mullaitivu district, 64,000 to Vavuniya district and 64,000 to Mannar district, he said.

Meanwhile, 18,475 families in Jaffna, 9,120 in Killinochchi, 6,405 in Mullaitivu, 8,000 in Vavuniya and 8,000 in Mannar were provided bags of cement, he said.

The ministry has taken this step to provide subsidiaries for people in these areas to complete building their houses, he said.
