Unique find while digging drain

The Buddha statue found in Akkarawatta

An ancient Buddha statue of historical and archaeological value has been discovered at a place called Akkarawatta in Thuruwila, Hidogama.

Hidogama Police OIC, Inspector Nishantha Kasthuriarachchi said a resident named Podimahatthya Pradeep Premakumara had found the statue while digging a drain in his land and informed the Police.

Officers visited the scene and brought the statue to the Police station.

The statue weighing 238 grammes and about seven meters in height is believed to be made of five varieties of metal.
