Lecture by Dr. Asoka de Zoysa
The 38 th lecture in the Monthly Lecture series of the National Trust
of Sri Lanka will be held at the HNB Auditorium, 22nd Floor, HNB Towers,
479 T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10 at 6.30 pm on Thursday (March 29).
Costume historians observe how items of dress and accessories have been
used to cover parts of the body and embellish the figure.
Paintings, drawings and photographs show how fashion has changed over
the past four centuries in the west. This lecture takes a selection of
Buddhist temple paintings from the mid 18th century to early 20th
century to survey how the female form was depicted over the years of
colonization. The lecture will be delivered by Professor in German
Studies at the University of Kelaniya,Dr. Asoka de Zoysa. He is also
visiting lecturer at the University of Visual and Performing Arts and
Consultant at the Academy of Design Colombo.
The lecture will be preceded by the launch of the book ' Flowering
Plants commonly encountered in Sri Lankan Habitats' by Dr. Sriyanie
Miththapala Dr. Siril Wijesundara and Dr. Janaki Galappatti published
jointly by the National Trust – Sri Lanka and the Central Cultural Fund.
The National Trust – Sri Lanka conducts monthly lectures on the last
Thursday of each month. The lectures are open to the public.
