Catholic Bishops decry thera killings
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Sri Lanka expressed shock at the
assassination of Ven Pitigala Jinasiri Thera and Ven Boralesgamuwe
Gunaratane Thera of the Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya.
The Bishops expressed their sympathies to the Chief Incumbent of the
Rajamaha Viharaya and the Sasana Sewaka Mandalaya.
Lankan business delegation in India
A group of 97 business delegates from Sri Lanka are visiting Mumbai
to participate in the India Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) organised
by the Indian Commerce and Industry Ministry and Engineering Export
Promotion Council (EEPC) from Thursday to today.
The Lankan delegation is participating to forge business partnership
and identify potential suppliers to source textile machinery, printing
machinery, pharmaceutical machinery, food processing machinery,
packaging machinery, agricultural machinery, electrical machinery and
all machinery parts, auto parts, pumps, fasteners, hand tools, cutting
tools, electrical home appliances, building material, hardware etc.
This is the first such delegation from Sri Lanka to visit India to
source engineering items.
The Sri Lankan businessmen have been provided air-fare and
accommodation by EEPC.
Galle mayor's house stoned

An unidentified person had allegedly thrown stones at the private
residence of Galle mayor Methsiri de Silva at Kanampitiya, Galle around
1 a.m. yesterday damaging two front windows of the house.
Galle Police are investigating following a complaint lodged by the
mayor.
The Galle mayor had taken steps to remove a long standing
unauthorized construction at Main Street of Galle on a court order the
day before.

R. Thilak Kumara Wickramasinghe, 44, of Sisila Stores, Randolawatte,
Kirimetitenna in Balangoda is suffering from a severe heart diseases.
Dr. Sujeeth H. Suvarna Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon of Lanka
Hospital has recommended an early Hypertrophied Obstructive
Cardiomyopathy (HOCM) surgery to save his life. The surgery is estimated
to cost Rs 600,000.
Wickramasinghe is a mason by profession and is unemployed due to his
illness.
He is not in a position to foot the bill due to his economic plight.
He requests financial assistance to meet the cost of the surgery.
Contributions can be remitted to Account No. 017200136377804 at the
People's Bank, Balangoda Branch.
Dictionaries for students
Free distribution of 165 Malalasekara English-Sinhala dictionaries
worth nearly Rs 350,000 for university selected students of the
Eheliyagoda National School took place at the school auditorium
recently.
These dictionaries were supplied to National Languages and Social
Integration Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara by a German company. The
minister took measures to distribute them among the students.

Facilities for urban settlement
The Australian government has funded a programme to upgrade basic
amenities in 20 settlements in the Colombo city area and the suburbs.
The programme includes cleaning and repairing damaged or blocked
sewer lines, replacing doors and squatting pans of rundown toilets,
repairs to common bathing and washing places and water lines.
Passion play on March 31
The passion play Jewamana Jesu, organised by the Catholic community
of Pallansena Parish will be staged on March 31 at 6.30pm at the Calvary
Sewana of Our Lady of Sorrow Church, Pallansena.
The passion play will feature over 100 actors and actresses. It will
be staged to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the church, Pallansena
Parish Priest Rev Fr Jayantha Nimal said.
Teacher felicitation
The annual get-together of the Past Pupils' Association of WP/LK/Panadura
Balika Maha Vidyalaya will be held tomorrow from 10am at the school's
Subhavi Hall.
It is organised to felicitate teachers who will retire after serving
the school for a long period.
Memorial lecture
The memorial lecture in honour of late Prof M M Uvais will be held
tomorrow at 4pm at the Thamil Sangam auditorium, Rudra Mawatha, Colombo

Governor Alavi Mowlana will be the chief guest and former ministry
secretary Amara Deva Madduma will be the special guest.
Dr Uvais is a renowned Muslim laureate in Tamil literature.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting of Arethusa College Old Boys' Association
will be held tomorrow at 9am at the college main hall.
Seminar
A seminar organized by the Kalutara District Justices of Peace
Association to educate its members on various matters relating to their
duties, will be held at the Panadura Divisional Secretariat hall on
March 31 at 9 am under the patronage of Senior Assistant Secretary to
the Justice Ministry A K D D D Arandara. Association’s President H D
Chandradasa said that Senior Superintendent of Police H M Dharmasena,
Supreme Court Lawyer Chandana Amarasinghe and Attorney-at-Law Gamini
Ekanayake will also deliver lectures.
Social service projects
The Lions Club of Werahera (District 306/A/ 2) will conduct social
service projects today from 9 am to 1 pm at St.Mary's Church, Maharagama.
Dental, eye, indigenous medical and western medical clinics,
distribution of plants and a blood donation will be held.
Death anniversary commemoration
The 16th death anniversary commemoration of Prof Allaama M M Uvais
will be held tomorrow at 4.30pm at the Colombo Tamil Sangam Hall.
Parliamentarian A H M Azwer will preside. Governor Alavi Moulana will
be the chief guest. Prof S Thillainathan will deliver the oration
