Museum security staff temporarily suspended

National Heritages Minister Dr. Jagath Balasuriya, yesterday said that the services of officers and security guards who had been on duty at the hall where the theft had taken place in the Colombo National Museum, had been temporarily suspended until the completion of investigations presently being carried out.

The Minister said that this decision had been taken when the committee headed by the Ministry Secretary appointed to conduct an internal inquiry on the incident met yesterday.

The minister said so making a statement to journalists in Parliament.

The minister stated that the ground floor of the Museum would be opened for the public from today and the rest would be opened after the completion of ongoing investigations.

The minister also observed that the security given to the Museum had not been sufficient.

He also said that the support of the Civil Security Department would be taken to strengthen the security of the Museum.
