The government yesterday said that its policy based on Mahinda
Chinthana will continue uninterrupted despite any outcome of the US
sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka at the 19th session of the United
Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that the country is
progressing faster after it was freed from clutches of terrorism and
massive improvements can be seen in almost every sector.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo he said that certain non
governmental organizations are behind the spate of strikes in the public
sector and these elements are inciting public employees in a subtle way
that trade union leaders do not know what their members are doing.
"The NGOs want to create disputes in the country by inciting the
workforce," he said. Minister Sirisena said that the government will not
hesitate to take action against them, if they pose a threat to national
security and stability. The minister said that the government elected by
the majority of the people will take the country forward despite the
conspiracies hatched by certain parties with vested interests.
Minister Sirisena added that the government is committed to develop
the country while equal focus is laid on the strengthening democracy. He
said that the country emerged after 433 years of colonial domination and
imperialists are using various ways to pressure the country.
