An evening of music and dance
The Tagore Society of Sri Lanka in association with the Indian
Cultural Centre, Colombo presents Madhur Sandhya – an evening of music
and dance today, at 5.00 p.m. at the John De Silva Theatre, Nelum Pokuna
Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The Programme comprises Santoor Recital by Dr. Karunarathne
Kiriwathtuduwa, Esraj Recital by Sanjeeva Ranasinghe, Rabindra Geet by
Thilini Rodrigo, a dance based on Rabindra Sangeet by the disciples of
Jayawanthi Panibharata and Varsha Mangalya, and another dance based on
Rabindra Sangeet by the disciples of Senaratne Pathirana.
UNESCO approval for South Asian teacher centre

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO) has approved the establishment of the South Asian Teacher
Development Centre in Sri Lanka at the Education Administration
Department premises in Meepe, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardana
said.
All member countries of the UNESCO Executive Committee had agreed to
the proposal which was submitted by the Education Ministry to establish
this Institution in Sri Lanka, he said.
Shop robbed
Matara Group corr
Thieves had entered a shop selling lubricants at Tissa road in
Ambalantota at night and robbed cash and cans of oil valued at nearly Rs
345,205.
Ambalantota Police is investigating.
New science lab
The newly built A/L science lab of the Udabadalawa Sudarshana Central
College will be ceremonially opened by the Wayamba Province Chief
Minister Athula Wijesinghe today. The new facility will fulfill a long
felt essential need of the school.
Left Discourse
A lecture titled ‘Workers,Unions and the Left: Responding to the
Global Crisis' will be delivered by Dr. Rohini Hensman on March 16 at
4pm at the N.M. Perera Centre, 106, N.M. Perera Mawatha(Cotta
Road),Colombo 8. All are welcome. The talk will be organized by the
Socialist Study Circle, under its Left Discourse programme.

‘Charitha Atak’
Veteran artiste Wilson Gunaratne of ‘Charirtha Hathak’ fame will
stage his Charitha Atak at the John de Silva Memorial Hall on March 16
at 6.30 pm. Proceeds are in aid of the Victoria Home, Rajagiriya.
‘Charitha Atak’ refers to several modern political developments in
the world. Besides Gunaratne it will feature several leading artistes
including Gamini Hettiarachchi, Premaratne Tennakoon, Keerthi Vijaya
Bandara, Harry Wimalasena, Suresh Wettasinghe and others. |
