Co-oporation Council as well.
The new organization, Lanka Peace Co-operation Council was
established by the Sri Lanka Peace Council along with the Asian-African
Co-operation Council. It had played a vital role in the past to achieve
peace and harmony, but it had been silent for a certain period.
Sri Lanka Peace Council was established in 1950 under the patronage
of Ven.Udakandawala Saranankara Thera with the aim of securing world
peace, ensure and to conduct a special project to ban nuclear armaments
which cause total annihilation of mankind. Both these organization had
done a great service while standing against the suppressive moves in the
past.
"We knew about the Asian-African Organization and the World Peace
Council during our student days.
They are respected as the most powerful organizations. They collapsed
with the breakdown of the Soviet Union and other conflict situations.
'With the current situation we are realizing organizations such as
these are very important to face the various conflict situations which
several western elements are trying to create in developing countries,"
the minister said.
Urban Affairs Senior Minister A. H. M. Fowzie, Human Resources Senior
Minister DEW Gunasekara, Scientific Affairs Senior Minister Prof. Tissa
Vitarana and Sri Lanka Communist Party General Secretary Raja Kollure
