Army - National Taekwondo champions

Sri Lanka Army secured the Senior National Taekwondo Championship
with 92 points at the tournament which concluded at Sugathadasa Indoor
Stadium yesterday for the ninth consecutive year. They were able to
clinch nine gold medals, four silver medals and thirteen bronze medals
from both male and female categories. 400 contestants representing 13
District Associations and three clubs were took part in the event.
Sri Lanka Navy became the runners-up of the senior
championship,scoring 25 points. Sri Lankan Army took the male
championship with 61 points while they were able to secure the female
championship with 31 points.
The Junior National Championship of the tournament was won by Gampaha
District Taekwondo Association by scoring 59 points while Ratnapura
District Taekwondo Association was able to became the runners up of the
championship with 55 points while they also secured the boys
championship with 32 points. The girls championship was clinched by
Gampaha District Taekwondo Association with 45 points
The best senior player(men) of the event was Kosala Srimal Fernando
who represented Puttalam district under bantam weight class. N.K. Kumari
who represented Gampaha district under the fly weight category clinched
best senior womens title. R.M. Ajmal who represented Puttalam District
under fly weight category was fortunate to grab the best junior
player(boys) title while Chathurika Madushani of Ratnapura District
Taekwondo Association won the best junior player(girls) title in the
Bantam weight category. The trophies were awarded by Korean Ambassador
for Sri Lanka John Moon Choi,the Korean Coach and T.V. Priyantha The
Secretary of the Taekwondo Federation in Sri Lanka. The winners of the
each weight classes are as follows
