Chamathsara – most outstanding player

Thirteen year old Chamathsara Fernando of Girls High School, Mount Lavinia was adjudged the Most Outstanding Player at the seventh annual Women's Friendship Under 18 Girls Table Tennis Championship organized by the womens working group of Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka in connection with the World Women's Day and worked off at the Lalith Athulathmudali Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia even the weekend.

Little Chamathsara Fernando is a promising paddler and by performance she has been induced into the Western Province Table Tennis Pool and is under the guidance of Western Province coach Nuwan Sampath.

The Friendship Trophy for the most outstanding player was donated by Sri Lanka's number one ranked player and womens national champion from Sri Lanka Air Force 21 year old Ishara Madurangi in recognition of the efforts of little girls.

Chamathsara Fernando first won the under 15 singles title by defeating the number one ranked Hansani Piumil Kapugeekiyana of Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda 14/7, 11/7. Moving into the higher age group category of under 18 by defeating the ranked number one player in this category Chami Gangoda of St. Joseph's Balika Vidyalaya, Kegalle by the comfortable margin of 11/2 and 11/5 thus underlying her dominance in this competition.

Defeating the two top seeds in the under 15 and under 18 age groups is a great achievement by 13 year old Chamathsara Fernando and she richly deserved the ”Friendship Trophy”.

Gracing the occasion as guests of honour were Vice Presidents of Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka Chandana Perera, W.A, Buddhasiri and Western Province Table Tennis Coach and former National champion Nuwan Sampath and they distributed the awards.

The results of the finale

Under 08 Singles: Mihinduni Dihansa of (Prajapathi MMV Ambalangoda) beat Kavindi Kavishka (Prajapathi MMV) 8/11, 11/5, 11/3.

Under 10 singles: Hirushika Colonbage (Prajapathi MMV) beat Thamodi Mendis (Girls High School Mt. Lavinia) 11/5, 11/2.

Under 12 singles: Hansani Mpimila Kapugeekiyana (Anula Vidyalaya, Nuegegoda) beat Sachini Alwis (Girls High School, Mt. Lavinia) 11/3, 14/12.

Under 15 Singles: Chamathsara Fernando (Girls High School Mt. Lavinia) beat Hansanee Piumila Kapugeekiyana (Anula Vidyalaya) 14/7, 11/7.

Under 18 Singles: Chamathsara Fernando (GHS Mt. Lavinia) beat Chani Gangoda (St. Jospeh's BV Kegalle) 11/2, 11/5.
