Politicians in action at Night Street Races in Kandy

Politicians will be seen in action behind the wheels among the 18
events which will be worked off at the second annual 'Night Street Races
2012" organised by the Kandy Off Road Adventure Club and the Sri Lanka
Motor Cycle Club with the support of the Ministry of Sports and the
Kandy Municipal Council which will be worked off in the streets of the
Kandy on Saturday March 17 commencing at 7.30 pm.
Apart from the politicians event there will be 17 other events, 10
for motor cars and 7 for motor cycles will be worked off said the Media
spokesman for the Kandy Off Road Adventure Club John Baskarun. There
will be standard car events. Mini events, Super car events and an event
for Standard Ford Formula cars.
John Baskaran said that politicians who had contested in local
government, Provincial Council and Parliamentary politics could
participate in the politicians event for standard motor cars. Some of
the politicians who could vie for this event are John Baskaran, former
Kandy Mayor Raja Pushpakumara, Kumar Beligala, Lohan Ratwatte, among
many others could vie for honours in this event. The entries are still
open.
At last year's races three racing drivers from Kandy Mahen Madugalle,
Sujeewa Karawita and Sachith Pathirana won their respective events and
they will be there this year to defend their title.
The other top drivers who are expected to participate at this year's
races are Rizvi Farouk, Safrraz Junaid, Ashane Silva, Janaka Dias,
Nalaka Dias, Pasindu Peiris, Dinesh Deheragoda, Arvinda Premadasa and
many others. John Baskaran said that this major racing event in the
hills has the blessings and support of the Governor of the Central
Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Chief Minister of the Central Province
Sarath Ekanayake, the Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Mayor
of Kandy Mahen Ratwatte, Deputy Inspector General of Police Central
Province N Abanwela, Central Army Command Brigadier Senerath Bandara and
many others. They have assured the organisers of their unstinted
