Seven arrested for poaching
Seven persons have been arrested by the Peradeniya police for
trespassing into the Hanthana forest reserve and engaging in poaching,
on Saturday. The suspects are all residents of Galaha.
Police also seized six Kgs of venison which had been obtained after
hunting protected species of deer. A double barrel gun, five rounds of
live ammunition, a stock of spent bullets were recovered from the
possession of the apprehended suspects. The suspects were to be produced
in Kandy magistrate court yesterday. Peradeniya Police are
investigating.
Treasure hunters nabbed
Four suspects were arrested for hunting treasure in an
archaeologically significant cave in the Nagolla Arannya Senasana in
Galewela by Galewela Police. The accused, residents of Dewahuwa were due
to be produce before Dambulla magistrate yesterday. Galewela police are
investigating.
Woman,child die in accident
A female cyclist and a five year old child died after they were hit
by a vehicle at Wattala in Peliyagoda on Saturday night. Police said the
vehicle involved in the accident had fled the scene after hitting the
motorcyclist. The accident occurred in front of State Engineering
Corporation on the Wattala - Colombo road. Peliyagoda police are
investigating.
Boy electrocuted
A nine year old boy who was electrocuted at home died at Kurunegala
hospital on admission on Friday. M Samendra Dilshan of Pillawa had tried
to connect a temporary power wire to switch on the hydro pump when he
faced the mishap. Wellawa police are investigating.
Drowns while having sea bath
A 19 year old youth, Lakmal Madusanka drowned at the Preethipura
beach in Wattala while bathing in the sea on Saturday evening. Wattala
Police said search operations are still continuing to recover the
youth's body.
