'Agitators keep mum over relief'

The government had to increase the fuel price unwillingly as oil producing countries have increased the oil price. The people who agitate against this do not talk about the relief given to fishermen, said M P for the Matara district Hemal Gunasekara at a seminar for media personnel at the Rahula College auditorium, Matara recently.

The seminar was organized by the Sri Lankan Institute for Professional Media Personnel. Gunasekara said people were provoked by such statements that were made to gain political advantage. "The media is close to the people.

"It is a close friend of the people. This friendship can be used either for good purposes or for bad purposes. The media has a great responsibility.
