Two dead, two injured in accident

Two persons died and two others were seriously injured and hospitalised when a speeding tipper collided with a three wheeler and another lorry at Waikkal on the Colombo - Chilaw road around noon yesterday.

The deceased were identified as B Mervyn Joseph de Silva, 45, of Maligawatte, Colombo and J A Tilak Harshaka, 22, of Katana.

Those admitted to the Negombo Hospital are K Ayeshmantha and Chanaka Jayasinghe both aged 23 of Pergashandiya.

Wennappuwa Police said the tipper on its way from Chilaw to Colombo had collided with an oncoming three wheeler and a parked lorry dragging it for about 50 meters and later crashed onto a margosa tree. The victims had been travelling in the ill fated three wheeler.

The tipper driver had fled the scene after the accident and later surrendered to the Wennapuwa Police.
