Empowering women to overcome difficulties, ministry objective - deputy minister

Child Development and Women’s Affairs ministry’s main objectives are providing opportunities for women to enjoy equal rights in the fields of economic, social, political and cultural sectors, empowering women to overcome difficulties faced by them for the main reason of being born as females, ensuring to safeguard their rights in the fields that they mostly require formulating State policies to eliminate rape, discrimination and other social injustices, said Child Development and Women’s Affairs Deputy Minister M L A M Hizbullah.

Issuing a message to mark International Women’s Day, the deputy minister said “I have pleasure in extending my felicitous message towards the International Women’s Day 2012, celebrated at Temple Trees under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.”

Women are not only victims of conflict, they are drivers of peace. Women’s voices must be heard if peace is to last, the release said.
