Kala ulela

Lalith Athulathmudali College, Mount Lavinia will hold the Swarna Rashmi Kala Ulela at S de S Jayasinghe Hall on March 9 from 10am to 3pm. It is organised by Advanced Level students of the Arts section.


Islamic lecture

An Islamic lecture in English on the topic 'Human The Great Creation of Allah' will be delivered by Ash Sheik Fazil Farook today from 10.30am to Luhar Salaah at Majmaul Khairath Mosque, 30/1, Nimal Road, Colombo 4.

The lecture is organised by Darul Uloomil Islamiyya, an institute that conducts Alim courses in English.


Buddhist talk

Samudra de Soysa will deliver a public Buddhist talk in English Vedhavithakka sutta-two kinds of thoughts at the meeting of the Servants of the Buddha Society on March 10 at the Maithree Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya at 4.30 p.m.

CD launch

The maiden CD Kurulu Thudin by consultant surgeon and senior lecturer of the Colombo Medical Faculty, Dr. D.J. Anthony will be ceremoniously launched on March 11 at 6 p.m. At the Kularatne Hall,Ananda College, Colombo.

Dr.Anthony is an old boy of Dharmaraja College,Kandy and Dharmapala College,Ampitiya and obtained his medical degree from the Peradeniya University. He pursued higher studies at the Princess Royal Hotel,UK. The lyrics of all songs are by Bandulasiri Hewagamage The melodies are by Dr.Anthony assisted by Dr.Melani Amarasuriya and Dr. B.M.C. Dassanayake. Composing and directing of music is by Tharindu Dasun Jayatilleka and senior lecturer Sangeeth Rathnayake.

Wasantha Rohana will compere the show while Prof.Carlo Fonseka and film star Ravindra Randeniya deliver sppeches on the occasion.


Liya Waruna

Liya Waruna 2012, a national Women’s Day programme to celebrations which is jointly organized by the National Apprentice Board and Independent Television Network will be held on March 8 at the Shilpa Gammanaya at the Janakala Kendraya premises from 10 am to 6 pm.

Local handicrafts, bridal shows, local food, cookery, hair styles will be exhibited on the occasion. Spectacles will be donated by the Chithra Foundation at the celebration. National Apprentice Board chairman Buddhi Keerthisena will participate on the occasion.


Lumbini Walk

Lumbini Walk 2012 which is organized by the Old Lumbinians Association will be held on May 26, 2012 . A special meeting on the Lumbini Walk will be held on March 11, 2012 at 9 am at the Lumbini theatre.


Sukhavihari book launch

The launching ceremony of the collection of poetry titled Sukhavihari compiled by Lalani Satharasinghe will be held at the National Library and Documentation Services Board Auditorium, Independence Avenue, Colombo 07 on March 10 from 9 am onwards. Sukhavihari which is a Sarasavi publication features 66 poems compiled by Lalani Satharasinghe on a wide spectrum of themes that are entwined with life from birth to death.

One dies in accident on SEW

One person died and three others were injured in an accident on the Southern Expressway at Galanigama, Kahathuduwa at 1.35 pm yesterday, said Police Media Spokesman Ajith Rohana.

He said the lorry running towards Colombo from Galle met with an accident after the lorry ran off the road due to a tyre puncher.

Four people were injured. One died after admission to the Horana Hospital. Premachandra, 55, died in the incident, he said.


Appeal

H M Nissanka Rajapaksa, 38, a father of three, of No 16, Senarathgama, Mahagalkadawala, Galgamuwa is suffering from acute renal failure following the removal of one of his kidneys during childhood. Consultant Nephrologist, Kandy General Hospital who is treating him has recommended a kidney transplant to save his life.

The surgery and the treatment is estimated to cost Rs 1 million. Nissanka Rajapaksa says he is unable to foot the bill due to his family’s financial plight. He requests the public to assist his cause by sending any financial contribution to help expedite the surgery and save his life. O+ kidney needed

Daya Nandanie Abeywickrama of No 49, Magamure, Kamburupitiya, a mother of four has been diagnosed with end stage renal failure and is in need of an O+ kidney for replant. Donors contact 041-2294630.


Three cops interdicted

Three police officers attached to the Dankotuwa Police station were interdicted over an incident that took place at Dankotuwa on Sunday.

The move came just days after a suspect was critically wounded when a policeman's pistol accidentally discharged during a raid in the Dankotuwa area. According to sources, an Inspector, a police sergeant and a police constable have been interdicted.

A police officer's holstered gun accidentally fired during a raid on an illegal gambling den at Thabarawila, Dankotuwa on Sunday critically injuring one suspect.
