Japan funds over Rs. 1.5 b for three projects
The Japanese government provided grant assistance to the value of Rs
1.55 billion for three projects aimed at facilitating social and
economic development in rural areas including the North and the East and
improving the living conditions of the people.
Rs 455 million will be provided under the non-project grant aid for
industrial products for procuring a range of equipment manufactured in
the eastern part of Japan that was affected by the great East Japan
earthquake, for improving Sri Lanka’s curative health care services and
enhancing overall health care services, providing safe drinking water
for the people in rural areas and developing the rural road network to
improve accessibility and connectivity between regions and urban areas.
Rs 1.026 billion will be provided under the project for
rehabilitation of Kilinochchi water supply scheme for the restoration of
a water supply system in the Kilinochchi district.
The move will provide safe drinking water and improve the health of
the people of these areas.
Rs 73 million will be provided under the project for the improvement
of Japanese Language Learning Equipment of the Kelaniya and Sabaragamuwa
universities for the purchase and installation of Japanese language
learning equipment.
The project will help modernize and expand the variety of equipment
in the two universities. The signing of the Exchange of Notes took place
between Japanese ambassador to Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo and Finance and
Planning Ministry Secretary Dr P B Jayasundera at the ministry
yesterday.
