Tamil-speaking officers appointed to CEA branches
Disna Mudalige
The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) has appointed new Tamil
speaking officers to its branches in the Northern and Eastern Provinces
to expand its operations.
The Northern and Eastern Provinces are now freely accessible to the
government and the public after the ending of the three decade old war.
The development of these areas has now been expedited. The CEA
undertaking its duty to balance environment and development has paid
prominent attention towards these areas.
The CEA conducted a special workshop to educate its newly appointed
officers in these two provinces on environmental issues and its agenda.
A CEA spokesman noted that the general awareness of people on
environmental issues in these areas is inadequate.
The officers were also educated on their duty to provide necessary
guidance for sustainable development and prepare observation reports.
About 45 officers participated in this workshop organized by the CEA
Human Resources Development Unit. CEA Director General Ramani Ellepola
and Environmental Pollution Control Division Deputy Director General K H
Muthukudaarachchi also participated.
