Cinnamon to be cultivated in Minipe

The Minipe area of the Uda Dumbara electorate in the famous ‘Dumbara’ geographical zone in the up-country is appropriate for ‘cinnamon’ cultivation, officials co-ordinating the the Minipe ‘Divi Neguma’ programme, said.

Accordingly, the officials have distributed 9,600 cinnamon plants among 4,800 farmers in carrying out the ‘Divi Neguma’, the government’s programme aimed at popularizing home gardening throughout the country. It is expected that cinnamon cultivation would be a part of agriculture and economic development in the locality in the future.

The Minipe Divisional Secretariat is behind the cinnamon cultivation effort.
