Pragathy 2012,first Indo - Lanka CMA students fest

Pragathy 2012, the First Indo - Lanka CMA Students fest was held at Gokulam convention centre in Cochin, India on February 18 and 19.

Pragathy 2012 Cost Arena, was jointly organized by Cochin chapter of ICAI and CMA Srilanka. The programme has literally lived up to the caption "everlasting quest for knowledge".

The programme envisaged all round development of CMA students not only in academic areas but also in development in certain important qualities of understanding the brother hood, culture and improvement of latent talents in the students.

This is the first of its kind among the accounting professional bodies in South Asia.

Pragathy 2012 saw participants stretched across India and also across the Indian Ocean. The CMA students from Institute of Certified Management Accountants, Sri Lanka attended the function and acquired deep understanding of the various culture and practices followed by states in different part of India. The event has shred the image of regional fest to an international fest attended by more than1,000 students from all CMA chapters in India.

The programme was inaugurated by the Member of Parliament form Chalakudy Constituency K P Dhanapalan. The function was graced by the chairman of Southern India Regional Council of ICAI, B R Prabhakar and other members of the council,namely, Raju Iyer, H Padmanabhan. Ramdas S. chairman Cochin ICAI Chapter Sankar P Panicker, Technical Director of Pragathy 2012, Jabawathani Sundaravel, Sri Lankan CMA student and Vishnu Mohandas, Chairman, Students Committee also spoke on the occasion.

A message from CMA Sri Lanka president Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala was read out at the inauguration of the conference.

The valedictory function was graced by industry representative Sunil Chacko, Executive Director, Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd, Kollam.

The programme had various types of competitions like paper presentation, case study, business quiz, mock press and cultural programess.

The Sri Lankan students group was awarded the first prize in the case study, secnd place in mock press and product launch.

The Coimbatore Chapter won first prize and was awarded the overall trophy. CMA Sri Lanka was the first runner up, which cemented the true sportsmanship of Pragathy 2012.
