Rain steals Rajans' victory

Dharmaraja College, Kandy, should consider themselves as most unlucky as rain robbed them of a certain outright victory in their schools under-19 cricket tournament match against Kalutara Vidyalaya which ended in a draw at Lake View, Kandy on Tuesday.

Rajans were set a victory target of 98 in nearly 35 overs. But when they had reached 44 for 2 in 10 overs, a heavy shower which came down halted the victory march of the Rajans.

They were 54 runs away from victory with 8 wickets in hand. Viraj Karaputugala was batting well unbeaten on 26.

Kalutara Vidyalaya 94 all out in 20 overs (Vinod Pasindu 59, Arvinda Withanarachchi 4 for 24, Nuwan Karunaratne 5 for 23) and 124 all out in 50 overs, Isuru Buddhika 38, Ruchira Pupulewatte 4 for 29, Danuka Prabath 3 for 20).

Dharmaraja College 121 all out in 34 overs. (Viraj Karaputugala 21, Sasith Gunasekera 36, Chandimal Silva 35, D J Manatunga 8 for 31) and 44 for 2 in 10 overs (Viraj Karaputugala 26 not out, Deneth Lanka 11)
