Pakistan HC calls for collective art exhibition
We hope that the George Keyt Foundation can take an initiative to
have a collective exhibition of young artists from Pakistan and Sri
Lanka. This would be the next step of the MoU signed between the Sri
Lanka's University of Visual and Performing Art and the National College
of Arts in Pakistan during our President's visit to Sri Lanka in 2010,
said Pakistan High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Seema Illahi Baloch.
She was addressing the inauguration of the exhibition of Contemporary
Sri Lankan Art at the National Arts Gallery Colombo.
"George Keyt Foundation is a blessing for the young and struggling
artists which help nurture their talents and finds avenues to display
that talent," she said.
The week-long exhibition will be held from February 28 to March 4. It
will be featuring 101 paintings, sculptures and art pieces of New
Artists (Nawa Kalakaruwo) from Sri Lanka.
The George Keyt Foundation has organised the Nawa Kalakaruwo
Exhibition with the sponsorship of Brown and Company PLC.
The High Commissioner said; "With such artists, Sri Lanka can look
forward to a very interesting and bright future full of surprises and
great work.
The exhibiting has struck out on new and interesting paths and their
handling of the medium, the conception and imaginative richness show
exceptionally high levels of confidence and versatility."
The George Keyt Foundation which provides a platform for young
artists for their growth and development, and an opportunity for
networking with others, she said.
"The greatest artists, be it in our part of the world, or in any
other, have struggled during their life time," she added.
She told the young artists to have the courage to follow their dream.
In Pakistan too there are a number of talented young artists emerging
from our universities and art collages.
