Drunken monk given bail

A monk who was produced before court for driving a vehicle under the influence of liquor and meeting with an accident was released on bail. The monk’s car had collided with a jeep in the Maharagama-Pannipitiya area and he was admitted to the Kalubowila hospital for his injuries. The doctors who checked this monk had reported that he had consumed alcohol at the time of the accident.

The suspected monk (58) had been produced before court on a previous occasion and was fined Rs. 26,000 and also had to pay Rs. 20,000 compensation, police said.
