Sebastianites in commanding position

St Sebastians College were in a healthy position in their inter-school under 19 cricket match against Wesley College, Colombo played at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa.

Batting first, homesters score was boosted by a solid knock of 51 runs by Anuk Fernando and Sangeeth Cooray contributed 32 runs. At one stage Sebs were 105 for 5 but Wesleyites could not take the mean advantage and Sebs made 201 runs. Tarindu Karunaratne was the most successful bowler for the visitors with 3 for 47.

At the end of day one Wesley was struggling at 104 for 8 with Sanitha de Mel claiming 5 for 38 and Amila Aponso bringing his tally to 91 wickets for the season with 3 for 24.

St Sebastians 201 (Anuk Fernando 51, Sangeeth Cooray 32, Satchinta Fonseka 24, Nishamal Fernando 20, Tarindu Karunarathne 3 for 47, Sachin Jayawardene 2 for 30, Ashen Fonseka 2 for 31).

Wesley 104 for 8 (Ashen Fonseka 32, Sanitha de Mel 5 for 38, Amila Aponso 3 for 24).
