Fun trip ends in tragedy

Two employers of a private firm in Matara drowned while canoeing with their colleagues in the Lenabatuwa tank in Kamburupitiya on Thursday.

Sithum Viraj, 19, and K Munasinghe, 22, of Kaburugamuwa, Matara were on a trip when they faced the tragedy.

The two bodies are lying at the Andapana hospital morgue for the post mortem. Kamburupitiya Police are investigating.

Woman's body found

The naked body of a woman was found floating in Dewana Galwala on the Matale - Wariyapola road by Matale Police on Wednesday.

The Police said that the body, appeared to be aged between 18 and 22 and had been wrapped in an iron net. Her head was covered with a grocery bag. The body is lying at the Matale hospital morgue. Her identity is yet to be confirmed.

Indian duo nabbed

An Indian man and a woman with 73 kgs of cardamon, 16 kgs of tobacco powder and 28,000 beedis were arrested in Ja Ela on Thursday.

The couple were nabbed with the smuggled goods at a house in Ja Ela. The suspects were handed over to Sri Lanka Customs for legal action.
