Media bodies ordered to hand over protest campaign video footage

Colombo Fort magistrate and additional district judge Kanista Wijeratne yesterday directed four media organisations to hand over the video footage in connection with protest campaigns carried out by the UNP and other parties in Colombo recently.

The judge also directed the media organisations to hand over the tapes to the Colombo Crime Division which is investigating the protest campaigns held in Colombo.

Path to Nibbana

The series of Dhamma discussion and meditation programme titled Nivanata Maga by Ven Polpitimukalane Pannasiri Thero will be held tomorrow from 2 to 3pm at the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress Hall, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo.

The event is organised by the Dharmashoka Foundatiomn on every last Sunday of the month.

Book launch

The book launch of Handy Perinbanayagam - A Memorial Volume and The Jaffna Youth Congress (in Sinhala, Tamil and English), edited by Santasilan Kadirgamar will be held on March 4 at 5.30pm at Saraswathy Hall, Lorensz Road, Bambalapitiya. High Commissioner of India, Ashok K Kantha will be the chief guest.

Event includes ‘A homage to Gandhi’ presented by the Nirmalanjali School of Dance.

Walk to raise funds

Yasodara Walk 2, to raise funds to renovate a building of Yasodara Vidyalaya, organized by Yasodara Vidyalaya Colombo Past Pupils’ Association and Prefects Guild, will be held tomorrow at 7am at the school premises. The walk will end at Viharamaha Devi Park. It will be held under the patronage of Principal Ajantha Kumari and the Deputy Principal.

Students, teachers, past pupils and parents will participate.

Prize giving

The 30th anniversary celebration and prize giving of Colombo Ahadiyya School Society Limited will be held tomorrow at 9am at the S de S Jayasinghe Hall, Dehiwela.

Amana Bank Managing Director and CEO Faizal Salieh will be the chief guest.

President of the Ahadiyya Shilbly Aziz PC will preside.

Academic sessions

The 10th annual academic sessions of the College of Forensic Pathologists of Sri Lanka will be held today at the Lionel Auditorium of the Sri Lanka Medical Association.

The sessions will begin at 9am. The theme of the sessions is ‘Forensic medicine in reduction of maternal, perinatal and infant morbidity and mortality in Sri Lanka.

The second Annual General Meeting of the Old Boys’ Association (Group 70) of Zahira College, Colombo will be held tomorrow at 10am at the Gafoor Hall followed by lunch.

Death of ex-Western Provincial Councillor's wife

Wife of former Beruwala SLFP chief organizer, former member of the Western Provincial Council and former Beruwala Urban Council Chairman Marhoom M S M Faleel Hajiar, Hajiani Sitthy Fareda Zulfika passed away on Wednesday. Janaza was taken to Fassya grand mosque for burial at China Fort, Beruwala yesterday.
