BNP Paribas Tennis:

Sri Lanka into World Group II

Sri Lankan men’s Wheelchair Tennis team has qualified for the World Group II in the BNP Paribas World Team Cup which will be worked off in Seoul, Korea next May.

Local duo D. M. Gamini and Upali Rajakaruna entered the World Group II after defeating Malaysia in Sunday’s play offs of the Asia/Oceania region Pre-qualifiers which worked off in India.

Sri Lanka came on top of the group after round robin contest and beat second seeded Malaysia for the second time in three days at the R. K. Khanna Tennis Stadium, New Delhi to book a place in the World Group II.

D.M. Gamini beat Kee King Kong 6/2, 6/1 while Upali defeated Abu Samah Borhan 6/2, 6/1 and registered a 2-0 victory against Malaysia.

Gamini and Upali showed a rapid improvement in recent times and won many victories.

The two players are capable of posing a good challenge in the World Team Cup Championship.
