More wellness centres for disabled War Heroes

Public assistance is sought for setting up “Brave Hearts Wellness Resorts” (Abhimansala) to provide care for permanently disabled War Heroes..

Abhimansala resort centres are to be established in every province aiming to provide totally disabled War Heroes with care and attention. Accordingly, Abhimansala will be made a lifetime wellness resort for the totally disabled War Heroes.

There had been a great necessity of establishing such wellness resorts to accommodate and provide life- long care for Army veterans who have been disabled.

The public can join hands in this programme with financial assistance considering it as a national duty. All donations are tax free since it is a charity service, an Army official said.

The Army has already constructed a resort centre at Anuradhapura in the North Central Province while the second is being constructed at Kamburupitiya, Matara in the Southern Province. Seven more Abhimansala resort centres are to be constructed in the other seven provinces. The first Abhimansala which provides facilities for 51 totally disabled war heroes was opened last year.

“The first Abhimansala in Anuradhapura facilitated a solution to the plight of the disabled soldiers, where 52 war heroes are being housed with all the facilities, amenities and medical attention. The ‘ Abhimansala 2 ’ project is estimated to cost around Rs 200 million. The selected lies on 10 acres of natural environment, surrounded by rich bio-diversity.

The Abhimansala 2 will provide 48 totally disabled war heroes with every facility including therapeutic aids. The Abhimansala 2 will comprise seven villas, five cottages, ward complex for 20 inmates, swimming pool, gymnasium, physiotherapy unit, medical wing, medical laboratory, library, indoor stadium, entertainment hall, auditorium, herbal treatment (Ayurveda) centre along with few more essential wings,” the official added.

All the Abhimansala centres will be very pleasant and constructed to suit the different requirements of disabled soldiers.

Apartments, along with amenities such as swimming pool, play area, gymnasium, walking trails etc will comprise with Abhimansala . Hence it is considered a highly desirable and attractive place for all disabled soldiers.

They will function as fully-equipped health resorts cum hospitals. Medical treatment include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychotherapy and also hydro therapy.
