Death due to haemorrhage

Dr W A S R Sujeewa Wickramarachchi, JMO, Gampaha Base Hospital who
conducted the autopsy into the death of R E B Jayaratne (65), owner of
Biyagama Village hotel reported that death was due to excessive
haemorrhage resulting from damage caused to the head by a sharp weapon.
No arrests have been made so far. Dompe Police are investigating
directed by OIC Inspector F Udayakumara Wootler.
State Dance Awards - 2011

The State Dance Awards Ceremony -2011 will be held at the John de
Silva memorial theatre Colombo 7 on February 26 at 5.00 p.m. under the
patronage of Culture and Arts Minister T.B. Ekanayake.
The awards ceremony is jointly organized by the Cultural Affairs
Department, the State Dance and Oriental Ballet panel and Arts Council
on the direction of the Culture and Arts Ministry. Kalasoori Piyasara
Silpadipathie will be awarded by the Narthana Thilaka award for the
appreciation of his service to local dance.
Twenty artistes who received the first places in the Sinhala medium
from up country, low country, and Sabaragamu traditional dance, 15
artistes received the second places and 10 artistes received third
places in the Sinhala medium as well as eight artistes who received the
first places, four artistes the second places, and one received third
place in the Tamil medium will be awarded.
ACUET proposals
The All Ceylon Union of English Teachers (ACUET) has urged Minister
of Education Bandula Gunawardene to ensure that the class ratio be
limited to 50 students. ACUET makes the following proposals:
*A survey be conducted to ascertain the shortage of toilets and
urinals in schools.
*A unified school uniform be introduced and that a panel of
substitutes be complied to cover those teachers who avail themselves of
maternity leave and
*A midday meal be provided for poor schoolchildren.
Union's Secretary-General M A Stanley Perera asserts that in popular
schools, over 45 students are crowded into each classroom and as such
teaching subjects effectively becomes an impossibility.
Miyesi Rathriya
The Miyesi Rathriya musical programme presented by the Rata Pedura
classical group organized by Heal the World, a charitable organization
helping cancer and thalassaemia patients will be held on February 26,
Saturday, from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm at the Wetwater Resort, Ja Ela Road,
Ambanvita, Gampaha. All proceeds will be utilized for the welfare of
cancer and thalassaemia patients.

The 24th Annual General Meeting of the Colombo Branch of Sri
Sumangala College, Panadura OBA (Colombo Branch) will be held on
