NWPC declares 2012 Year of Ayurveda

This year has been declared the Year of Ayurveda by the North Western Provincial Council according to a concept of North Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe.

Consequently, 390 free ayurvedic mobile clinics would be held in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts. These clinics would be conducted in remote areas and would mainly focus on schoolchildren and senior citizens. Ayurvedic Doctor A M Punchibandara, a senior committee member of Nikaweratiya Ayurvedic Physicians’ Welfare Association, Kurunegala told “Daily News” that about 300,000 individuals would be provided with medical treatment and medical advice under this programme.

The NWPC would allocate Rs 4.5 million for this purpose and 125 physicians have consented in offering their expertise and free medicine. “Inmates of Elders’ Homes too would be provided with necessary medical guidance and free medicines, Punchibandara said.
