Russian Presidential elections
The elections of President of the Russian Federation are to take
place on March 4, 2012. The President will be elected for the new,
extended term of six years. Any Russian citizen of age 35 or above who
has been resident of the country for at least 10 years and does not hold
citizenship nor right of residence in another country is eligible to be
nominated as the candidate for President of the Russian Federation.
The list of the candidates for the presidential elections 2012 is the
following (in Russian alphabet order):
1. Vladimir Zhirinovskiy - the founder and the leader of the Liberal
Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR).
2.Gennady Zyuganov - the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian
Federation (CPRF) since 1993.
3 Sergey Mironov - the leader of the party "A Just Russia". Was the
Speaker of the Federation Council - the upper house of the Russian
Parliament - for almost 10 years.
4 Mikhail Prohorov (the independent candidate) - a well-known
businessman and billionaire.
5 Vladimir Putin - the current Prime Minister of the Russian
Federation and the leader of the ruling party "United Russia" - has
already been elected President for two terms: in 2000 and in 2004. To
ensure fair and transparent elections the government of the Russian
Federation decided to install about 200 000 webcams practically in all
95,000 polling stations across Russia. On election day, voting and the
counting will be streamed online from each of them. Those Russian
citizens who live or temporarily stay abroad can also vote for the
candidates to the President of the Russian Federation on March 4, 2012
from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m. local time In Sri Lanka the polling station ¹
