The SLFP founded by late leader S W R D Bandaranaike in 1957, became stronger and stronger day by day, and it is more strong today than ever before, under the wise leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Galle District MP and Ratgama SLFP Chief Organiser, Mohan P de Silva said on Sunday at Balangoda.

He was addressing the membership of the Balangoda (East) SLFP branch, which met at branch president Nobert de Silva’s premises to elect office-bearers for the coming year. ”President Rajapaksa could win all elections held so far under his leadership, and the SLFP has an infallible way of winning elections, even in future,” he stressed.

“SLFP from its inception in 1951 was a people-friendly political party,” he said.

“SLFP never misguided masses by telling lies, that is why people like the party”, he said.

He was speaking on the Balangoda development activities. He said Balangoda was constructed after 2004 tsunami, to settled down tsunami affected families on the coastal belt. About 1476 families have been settled in the Balangoda new village providing all needs with roadways, electricity, pipe-borne water supply, he said.

The Rajapaksa government's main concern was to resettle homeless families and President Rajapaksa as the then Prime Minister laid foundation stones to erect housing schemes, he said. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa had allocated Rs 01 million each for the development of each GN division. He said he is trying to increase the allocation up to 15 lakhs.
