Man knocked down by train

A man died on the spot when he was knocked down by the Colombo-Kandy train last Sunday.

I D Danapala, father of two, was knocked down by the train while he was crossing the rail track.


Two loggers held

Two persons who cut down wooden sticks without permission in the Sigiriya sanctuary were caught by wildlife conservation officials. They were fined Rs 20,000 each after being produced before Sigiriya circuit Magistrate S J Morawaka.

Sigiriya wildlife officer B Premadasa prosecuted.


Priyani needs help

Asanka Priyani 22, of Dorapegedara, Kotavagama in Galle, has been diagnosed with a spinal deformity and has been recommended urgent surgery by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon of the National Hospital, Dr. M Vasantha Perera. The surgery is estimated to cost Rs. 1.3 million.

She says that she was not in a position to foot this bill and requests the public and philanthropists to help her cause by sending whatever contribution possible to Account number 72823132 of Bank of Ceylon Battaramulla branch.


Heart patient appeals for help

Sumana Lilian Vineetha Wickremasinghe of 96/21, Temple Road, Dadagamuwa, Veyangoda has been recommended immediate surgery for coronary artery bypass grafting (normal risk surgery) by consultant cardiothoracic surgeon of Lanka Hospitals, Dr Gamini Ranasinghe.

The surgery is estimated to cost around Rs 490,000.

The patient seeks public help. Financial contributions can be remitted to A/c No 3152878 of Bank of Ceylon, Veyangoda.

H K Ghanawathi, 62, who has been diagnosed to have end stage renal failure, has been recommended a kidney transplantation. Her blood group is A positive and the blood group of the donor should be A and O positive.

Help sought to find girl

Thilini Hansika, daughter of Manel Chandrika of 37/3, St Jude Mawatha, Modera, Colombo 13 is reported missing since January 1, 2012. Chandrika seeks public help to find her daughter's whereabouts. Hansika is 13 years, fair in complexion and medium built. Her hair was grown up to her knees. She was last seen in a white frock and brown shoes.


Meelad-un-Nabi celebrations

The 59th annual Meelad-un-Nabi celebrations of the Moors' Islamic Cultural Home will be held on February 20 at the MICH reception hall, 7, Lily Avenue, Colombo 6.

The proceedings will commence with the recital of mowlood followed by the prize giving. Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Mohammed Nabi Hassan Pour will be the chief guest. MICH president Omar Kamil will preside.


Thinakaran Head on Autograph

Thinakaran Chief Editor and Public Performance Board member S Thilainathan will be featured on the Autograph programme of ITN's Vasanthan TV tomorrow at 8.30am.

He will be interviewed by S Vishvanathan. The programme features personalities in the social, political, media and other fields.
