Three new entrances to Wildlife Parks in EP

Three new entrances to Wildlife Parks in the Eastern Province will be
opened parallel to the Deyata Kirula 2013 development programme,
Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S M Chandrasena said.
These three entrances will be in Trincomalee- Akbopura, Polonnaruwa-
Somawathiya and Wilpattu, he said.
He said so during a ceremony to distribute vehicles to wildlife
offices of ten Wildlife Parks in the country.
Soon the Wildlife Department will depend on its own income, he added.
Two single cabs will be provided to the Wilpattu National Park which
is situated in the North Central Province. Udawalawa, Maduru Oya,
Lahugala, Hambantota and Vavuniya elephant control centers, Galge
entrance, Lunugamwehera elephant centre and Wilgamuwa livestock offices
were also provided with cabs. One double cab was provided to South
Sabaragamuwa.
The value of these vehicles is Rs 31.3 million.
Action will be taken to develop tourism in national parks in the
country, the minister said.
After 30 years of terrorism, tourists are now coming to Sri Lanka.
Wildlife parks are vital to develop tourism.
For nearly 30 years, Yala and Wilpattu parks were controlled by the
LTTE. Now the time has come to develop tourism in these areas, the
minister added.
The Agrarian Services and Wildlife Ministry has drawn up plans to
construct circuit bungalows in all national parks in the country, he
said. |
