More road development projects under Maga Neguma

The government has recognized that it is vital to improve the infrastructure of the country, particularly to improve the road network in the march towards national development, Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawala told the Daily News.

That is why the village connecting project (VCP) under the Maga Neguma programme commenced under the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapkasa, he said.

Under this programme, eleven damaged roads in eleven electorates have already been rehabilitated using concrete blocks with 40N/mm2 of strength across the country.

The Deputy Minister said that the twelfth rural road development project under Maga Neguma was initiated in Iranawila Mahinda Rajapaksa fishing village in the Puttalam district recently.

It is expected to rehabilitate the entire road network in the fishing village at a cost of Rs.45 million.

This will enable villagers to improve their economy by marketing their produce to consumers in other areas.

Under this programme, roads of the village will be improved by the RDA and with the participation of Community Based Organizations (CBOs).
