President meets Singapore Defence Minister
Talks on human trafficking, drug menace:
President Mahinda Rajapaksa had discussions with Singapore’s Defence
Minister Dr Eng Hen at the Shangrila Hotel in Singapore on Thursday
afternoon.
Many issues relating to the security of the region were discussed at
this meeting with special emphasis on human trafficking and the
escalation of the drug menace and measures to combat them, said a press
release by the President’s Media Division.
After his meeting with the Defence Minister, President Mahinda
Rajapaksa met Singapore Trade Industries and Home Affairs Minister S
Eswaran at his ministry.
At this meeting, the President and the Singapore Minister exchange
views on the manner in which Singapore using the four main languages
utilized the language policy to resolve common social problems.
Discussions also delved on the implementation of Youth Training
programmes in Singapore, setting up of co-operation between the two
countries in the field of sports to improve sporting talents.
External Affairs Minister Prof G L Peiris and Secretary to the
President Lalith Weeratunge also participated in the discussions. |
