A team of dedicated teachers are essential to produce a skillful
future generation, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W D J
Seneviratne said.
The minister was addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony at
Kumara Vidyalaya, Ratnapura recently.
Minister Seneviratne laid the foundation stone for a three storied
building. The government will spend around Rs 200 million for the
construction.
“The government should pay attention to the distance to a school from
the teacher's home town or residence when an appointment is made.
“If a teacher has to spend a long time travelling, the teacher will
spend less time with the students,” the minister said.
All measures will be taken by provincial education ministers after
discussions with the authorities to find an answer to issues like this,
Seneviratne said.
“Kumara Vidyalaya has developed in a short time. This school was
started when I was the deputy education minister and I am happy to see
vast development at Kumara Vidyalaya,” the minister said.
Sabaragamuwa chief minister Maheepala Herath, Sabaragamuwa Provincial
Council chairman Ranjith Bandara, Regional Education director N A
Wijeysinghe and Kumara Vidyalaya Principal M K P Chandrasena also
participated.
