Fisherman dies in Chilaw violence

One fisherman died and three others were critically injured following an incident in Chilaw town yesterday where Police tried to control a tense situation amid a protest by fishermen in the area.

According to Police sources the protesters pelted stones at Police officials and the STF personnel deployed in the city used measures to control the mob.

The protestors who stepped back turned violent after some time and had started attacking the Security Forces. Two Police traffic bicycles and a Police truck were badly damaged in the attack. Chilaw Police Superitendent’s official quarters were also damaged.

The Police with STF brought the situation under control. Police Media Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said that a Police Curfew was in force till 6 am today.
